With permanent makeup getting insanely popular for the convenience that they bring, lip blushing or aquarelle is topping the list of must-get beauty treatments. Here is everything you need to know about this wonderful non-invasive aesthetics procedure.

What is Lip Blushing / Aquarelle Lips?

Lip blushing is a semi-permanent lip tint. Not quite like a lipstick, It's designed to enhance your lip tone so although it appears bright at first, healed results will be much softer more like a water mark. It's perfect for adding a splash of colour to your face without looking overdone and is a great face enhancement, as it fills your lip and lip line with colour making your lips more prominent. There are several tones and colours to choose from depending on what result you are after.

How long does it last?

Lip blush usually lasts between 1-2 years before needing a retouch. Colour will eventually fade back to your original lip colour.

How long does it take to heal?

Lip Blush usually remains bright on your lips for 1 week following the procedure. Lips will be dry, can flake and peel during this healing process. Swelling usually subsides within 48 hours. We recommend being diligent with your homecare to help nourish and repair your lips. Apply your after-care balm every 30 mins ensuring your lips do not dry out. Do not pick your dry lips. After the healing process colour can look dull and withdrawn. It's important to wait the full 6 weeks after the procedure as the colour usually reinvigorates during this time.

Is a touch up needed?

Not everyone will need a touch up, however a touch up can be done no sooner that 8 weeks after your first session to allow adequate time for your lips to heal.

Are there any contraindications?

Lip blushing is performed with a machine which has a very fine needle that imbeds the colour using a special pixelating technique. As any cosmetic procedure is damaging to the skin and because we are irritating the lip tissue, you may suffer a cold sore outbreak. If you are a cold sore sufferer there is a very high chance that you will have a breakout following the procedure. I highly recommend speaking with your doctor to gain advice of prescription preventatives like Valtrex otherwise, over the counter options are Lysine a vitamin to use 1 month prior to your treatment and Famciclovir for as soon as you feel that tingle. Whilst every precaution is taken, the most advanced technician cannot prevent a cold sore outbreak. Other contraindications included are if you are prone to keloid scarring, hyperpigmentation, suffer from skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, diabetes, pregnant or breast feeding, on blood thinners, taking Accutane or steroids or suffer from any healing conditions.

Can I over-line the lips?

Unfortunately, lip blushing should only be performed in the natural line of the lips. Your lip and skin have different textures therefore your finish will have an obvious uneven healing of pigment.

Does it hurt?

There is some discomfort however it is very tolerable.

How do we find a tone that suits me?

There are so many pigments to choose from, we will show you options that will best suit your skin tone prior to the service, ensuring you are happy with the colour and understand what you can expect for your final result.

What is the pigment made of?

The pigment used in lip blushing is vegan and organic; there is certainly no animal-derived ingredients included.

What factors will affect the result of my lip tattoo?

The amount of pigment absorption may reduce when there is an excessive bleeding during the procedure. Certain food or drink, such as alcohol and caffeine, and certain vitamins or medications may act as stimulants. Thus, you should avoid them at least 48 hours before your appointment. In addition, sun and tanning bed exposure must be avoided 30 days before and after the procedure. This is because the sun may change the color appearance of the pigment and extremely soften the look of your lip tattoo.
